Abstract

Background

The public presentation of this clinical case is important to increase awareness among clinicians about complications of ovarian tumours in children and adolescents, such as appendiceal torsion. This knowledge will help to improve the diagnosis and treatment tactics of such conditions in adolescent girls.

Clinical Case Description.

We present a case of uterine appendiceal torsion in an adolescent girl with benign germ cell tumour of the ovary admitted with a clinic of acute abdomen, symptoms non-specific. Diagnosis of the condition included ultrasound, MRI with contrast and determination of marker levels (AFP, LDH, hCG). The treatment was carried out in stages and organ preserving treatment was applied.

Conclusion

On the basis of the presented clinical observation, conclusions about the importance of early diagnosis and individual approach to the choice of treatment method in uterine appendage torsion in girls were made. Laparoscopic organ-preserving surgery is the preferred method of treatment due to minimization of tissue trauma and preservation of the ovarian reserve.
